In 2001, Berton and Carol Bertagna planted their first vineyard in the yard of their Chico home. What started as a small trial, quickly developed into a spirited and rewarding journey. The vineyard slowly expanded to several locations and now encompasses a variety of crops including many different wine varietals. In January of 2016 Carol and Berton opened Almendra Winery & Distillery in Durham, CA. Over the past few years they have added a restaurant to the winery & distillery, where they take pride in using locally sourced products.
